In 2017, the voters of the Eastern Upper Peninsula (EUP) approved a regional Career and Technical Education millage of 1 mill for 10 years. The goal was to provide every 11th and 12th-grade student in the region with access to at least two CTE opportunities, plus entrepreneurial training, while providing job skills to live and work in the EUP. There were eight CTE programs at the time. Ten years later, there are 25 programs, and all districts have access to at least two opportunities for the students. In addition, one CTE Early Middle College program is now operational, further strengthening pathways for students to earn industry credentials, college credit, and career-readiness skills.
Voters of the EUP will be asked to consider a renewal of this millage on May 5, 2026.
If approved, the millage will continue to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across Chippewa, Mackinac, and Luce counties, and
Provide student transportation to ensure access to CTE programs
Fund CTE exploration days in: Manufacturing, Health Care, & Skilled Trades
Support Work-Based Learning opportunities
Provide funding for Business and Industry Tours
Support Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)
Support Special Population students
Pay for industry-recognized certifications
The goal is to continue providing each student in the EUP with access to at least 2 high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, along with meaningful work-based learning experiences, to build strong technical skills that help meet local labor market needs.
