March is Reading Month! At the EUPISD Learning Center, the theme for our reading month is "Reading is an Adventure". Each class will read dragon-themed books. The staff and students at the Learning Center will participate in spirit-filled activities throughout the month to build excitement about reading.
Why is reading so important? It is a foundational skill for life-long learning. Our kids begin to develop pre-reading skills in their earliest years. As parents, grandparents, and caring adults, we can assist our kids develop by introducing them to words early in life - by simply talking, or by reading books, by singing, or by storytelling. Our brains need to exercise, just as our muscles need to exercise. Spend a few minutes each day this month reading - for your child or yourself.

Regional History Day – March 11
Participants in Regional History Day have submitted their final projects. This year, Regional History Day went virtual. Stay tuned for a video announcement of winners on March 11!
CTE
10th grade students from across the region toured CTE programs at the Sault Area Career Center, and Rudyard Schools. Rudyard hosted the CTE programs from Brimley, Pickford and Les Cheneaux Schools. CTE course offerings can be found in the EUPISD CTE brochure
Rudyard Schools was awarded a $300,000 grant for their mechatronics program from the SME foundation. SME PRIME (Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education) builds cost-effective and tailored manufacturing/engineering programs in high schools across the country, providing equipment, curriculum, professional development, scholarships and STEM-focused extracurricular activities to students and teachers.
The Upper Peninsula Professional Trades Career Day has been scheduled for April 26. The event gives 12th grade students a chance to work with hands on demonstrations and learn how to enter various career fields.
The event will be held at the Sault Ste. Marie EDC.

The MiSTEM Network works to empower educators and students while making stronger connections between education and business. We are working hard to grow our statewide partnerships as well as our regional partnerships and we would like to support you. REMC FREE Virtual Courses for March
REMC Association of Michigan offers free virtual courses for SCHECH credit every month. Courses include: Coding the Classroom, Practical Differentiated Instruction, Gamification for Student Engagement & Learning, and many more. Need SCECHs? REMC Free March Virtual Courses
Discovery Education
Discovery Education is a resource for classroom use that includes media, curriculum, and activities to support on-site and virtual learning. This resource is available to most teachers and students in the region. If you are interested in using this resource in your classroom, please contact Marianna Ripple to get you started.
Regional Data Manager Meetings
Data Managers from all regional schools are asked to participate in these meetings in order to create and communicate regional processes related to student enrollment, NWEA, technology, and reporting. Please see Wisdomwhere to register for the meetings: 3/17/2022 & 5/12/2022.
Skyward Data Manager virtual office meetings will continue Thursdays from 1:30 –2:30pm. The link for this meeting is posted in the Skyward Implementation channel of Teams. No registration is required.

- A state-wide Sex Ed Advisory Board (SEAB) training is available on March 22. This workshop will explore the role of a SEAB, curriculum review, 2 year surveys, & more. Registration is available here.
- SHAPE-MI is teaming with the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan to seek resources for physical educators and their students across the state. These partners have developed a survey to ask administrators and physical educators about your current program, professional development needs, and views of important services and products that will impact effectiveness.

Collaborative Problem Solving - Families and Schools
Positive communication and collaboration between school and home is critical to supporting student needs. There are a wide variety of tools available to support the collaborative process. Direct and early communication helps create positive family relationships. The EUPISD Continuum of Dispute Resolution Options offers a comprehensive overview of processes that are available to support problem solving. Project ImPACT – Parents of young children with autism are encouraged to sign up for our Spring 2022 Project ImPACT Group Training Program. Please share this informational flyer/registration link with anyone who may be interested.
Building Level Autism Teams continue to support students with autism spectrum disorders by adhering to these Guiding Principles. These tenants outline the core beliefs that must be in place for effective programming for students on the spectrum and beyond.
