COVID-19 Update July 31, 2020

July 31, 2020

Dear Eastern Upper Peninsula families and communities:

On Wednesday June 17th, Governor Whitmer announced that it was her intention to allow the resumption of face-to-face instruction when the new school year begins. Collectively, we have reflected on our successes of remote learning over the last few months and learned from our challenges. We have come together across our communities to share and improve our practices.

Our districts have worked together to review the Governor’s Return to School Roadmap and to develop our plans. We have worked closely with our area health departments and sought guidance from the CDC. Our plans will include safety protocols, instructional expectations, support for mental and social emotional health and operational procedures. Our goal is to get our students back to school in the safest way possible.

In the upcoming weeks, districts in the Eastern Upper Peninsula will announce the details of our plans. At this time, the following districts plan to offer face-to-face instruction to our students. In addition, districts plan to provide an online, virtual option for K-12 instruction with curriculum developed by local teachers and supplemented by content from multiple sources. Through regional collaboration and partnerships, students and families will be able to choose the program that best meets their needs.

Working together, districts in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District will create programming that will meet the needs of our students. Thank you for your support of public education in our communities!

Educationally yours,
