Mr. Gary Garn

Teacher Consultant for Hearing Impaired and Visually Impaired
Orientation & Mobility Specialist
 
Across all EUPISD constituent school districts, Gary serves preschoolers through high school-age learners who present hearing loss, and/or vision loss.
 
He will communicate with medical communities, consult/collaborate with school staff and parents with regard to developmental or educational implications of hearing and/or vision loss, introduce effective intervention strategies, provide equipment accommodations, adapt instructional materials and conduct assessments. He can implement direct academic instruction for Braille and Nemeth code instruction, manual communication, community-based mobility training, as well as core content areas. Gary has accrued much experience at working with students who have multiple disabilites.
 
Gary has been teaching deaf and hard-of-hearing students since 1986, blind and low-vision students since 1994, and has practiced orientation and mobility instruction since 1998. He is a member of the Michigan Department of Education Low Incidence Outreach Cortical Visual Impairment Mentorship Team.
