Digital Learning
In a traditional sense, we imagine a teacher meets at a prescribed time with a group of students to introduce ideas, concepts and facts. There may be discussion, practice, questions and answers. We call this a class. Teachers often set up small groups within a class to encourage idea-sharing, help-your-neightbor, and many-hands-accomplish-much. And sometimes, one student may need individualized attention from the teacher.
We typically think of a conference as a scheduled meeting between parent(s) and teacher(s). Some conferences are held en-masse on scheduled conference days to discuss overall achievement, general performance, and behavior. Sometimes, a teacher will contact the parent of an individual student for a conference to discuss a specific area of concern. Other times, a parent will phone or stop in to see a teacher before or after school.
What does this look like in a digital classroom?
Host online classes and lectures. Make connecting remote learning seamless and use online meetings to deliver remote teaching to all students. Pre-record lectures for content delivery and then host a live conference for video, audio, or chat discussions. Call an individual student to respond to questions or to just check in.
How do I get started?
The General Education and Technology staff are prepared to work with you as you develop your digital classroom. Each staff member has taken a series of educational modules in Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams and we can make those modules available to you. Then, as you building your class, you can ask questions, request feedback, or video-chat for information and moral support!
